UNICREDS - How different models of higher education can benefit regional economic development

Our PURE project has amongst amongst its regions, Devon and Cornwall in the South West of England. Therefore we are very interested in the UNICREDS project, details of which are found at http://www.unicreds.eu/

Co-ordinated by Cornwall Council, UNICREDS is a €2million project looking at how different models of higher education can benefit regional economic development. The project is majority funded by the EU via the ERDF and the INTERREG IVC programme, in addition to co-financing from each of the 15 partners from countries across the EU.

The aim of the UNICREDS project is to transform regions with underperforming economies into centres of research and innovation, through the creation of a new model for economic development. At the heart of the model is the interaction between universities, government organisations and the private sector. UNICREDS is a three-year project involving partners from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Sweden and the UK.

UNICREDS

Thanks for bringing our attention to this Mike. In Kent we are currently reeling with the announcement of the closure of Pfizer's R&D site. Whilst this can be seen as an economic disaster, it may well just be the stimulus for a more concerted approach in the Region to develop a Triple Helix approach. Selling the concept has proven dificult in the good times, the economic downturn is a time when we should be taking greater risks and discarding old organisational boundaries.
