How did UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities members around the world celebrate International Day of Education?

On International Day of Education, 24 January 2020, the right to education was celebrated around the world. UNESCO learning cities from all regions joined in by celebrating the joy of learning and by showing how learning can empower people, preserve the planet, build shared prosperity and foster peace.

Mr Daniel Baril, Director General of the Canadian Institute for Cooperation in Adult Education (ICAE), has been elected Chair of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning Governing Board. He succeeds Ms Malak Zaalouk. Learn more.

Lifelong learning policies

The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning provides policy advice to strengthen education systems from a lifelong learning perspective in Cambodia, China, the Philippines and Rwanda. Learn more.

On 4 and 5 February 2020, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning will host an expert meeting on universities’ contributions to lifelong learning. Learn more.

Literacy

Learning together throughout life is the aim of a family literacy project implemented by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning. Together with national and local partners in selected countries in Africa and South Asia, the institute has completed a series of capacity-building workshops on family literacy and learning.
