We are very pleased to make available a blog [2] from UNESCO's International Institute for Educational Planning concerning how the city of Manila is working to acheive Sustainable Development Goal 4.
The introduction to this blog gives the context for this work as follows:
'This blog post, the second in a series showcasing the IIEP-UNESCO research project ‘Local challenges, global imperatives: Cities at the forefront to achieve Education 2030’, [3]looks at the key role the City of Manila plays in educational planning and management.
The study was conducted by the Centre for Neighbourhood Studies (CeNS) [4] in close collaboration with the City of Manila’s authorities, and our research partners the University of Glasgow and the Centre for Sustainable Healthy Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC). [5]As with the study on Kigali, [6] we organised a dissemination webinar to share the main lessons learned from the fieldwork which was attended by more than 60 key education stakeholders including city authorities, councillors, local education and welfare officers, city planners, non-teaching and teaching personnel'.
The study in Manila was funded through SHLC under the aegis of its Capacity Acceleration Development Fund, overseen by PASCAL's Director in Europe, Mike Osborne (a SHLC co-I) with Yulia Nesterova also from the University of Glasgow working closely at the research rockface with IIEP colleagues and PASCAL Director for Asia, Mario delos Reyes (also a SHLC Co-I) and colleagues. Funding for SHLC came from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) as part of the Global Challenges Research Fund to whom our thanks is offered. All in SHLC also thank IIEP for a rich and benefical collaboration over the past few years, which we feel has produced very interesting and helpful outcomes.
