One of the most interesting documents in relation to Education for All initiated by UNESCO in Jomtien in 1990 and reaffirmed in Dakar in 2000 is the Muscat Agreement which I attach for reference of subscribers. It is envisaged that the Statement and the targets within will be used as part of ongoing national, regional and global consultations on the post-2015 education agenda, to be approved at the World Education Forum 2015, which will be hosted by the Republic of Korea in May 2015. The expectation is that this will be an integral part of the global development agenda to be adopted at the UN Summit in New York City in September 2015.
Readers will also recall that the EFA and MDG process has been working together during the past 15 years. Now the MDGs have been turned into Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This process is being undertaken within the UN through an Open Working Group. Their latest document covers 17 priority areas, including Education under point four. This is very close to the Muscat Agreement. The overall goal is the same with some differences to be found within the detail.
