The Professional Association of Lecturers in Youth and Community Work is funding a series of FREE national, collaborative 'Policy and Practice' seminars around the UK. The aim of these seminars is to foster greater levels of collaboration between higher education institutions and practice agencies in the profiling of challenges and opportunities facing youth and community work policy and practice across the UK.
As part of this series, Developing a Charter for Post Brexit Youth and Community Work will take place on Wednesday 16th May, 2018: 10.00am-3.00pm at the University of Glasgow, St Andrews Building, Eldon Street.
Hosted by the University of Glasgow, and co-designed by the University of the West of Scotland, this event will include representation from the Prince's Trust, Youthlink Scotland and other practice agencies engaged in community-based youth work. This seminar will be repeated in Dumfries at University of the West of Scotland on May 24th.
The purpose of this seminar is to draw on research and practice in order to produce a new and visionary post-Brexit charter for youth and community work. The seminar will not attempt to speculate on the impact of Brexit but rather to use Brexit as an opportunity to draw up demands for changes in policy and funding to enable practitioners to increase and improve the service they offer. The seminar is an opportunity for researchers and practitioners, based on collective evidence, to consider what they would like to realise for youth and community work post-Brexit. The seminar will encourage a pro-active rather than passive response to future challenges and opportunities, supporting the sector to articulate its 'demands' rather than waiting for and accepting outcomes decided by others. The resulting charter will be circulated around the UK for consultation and endorsement.
