In France, a recently-announced $6.1 billion plan, called Action Coeur de Ville (Action: Heart of the City), aims to revamp 222 city centers across the country over the next five years with new stores, offices, co-working spaces, and renovated housing. (CityLab [5])
In the primarily Latino neighborhood of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles, a residential street transformed into a one-day “play street” last weekend as part of a design initiative to reclaim streets for civic life. Often as collaborations between neighbors, activists, and nonprofits or city agencies, “play street” initiatives have gained traction around the world, particularly in low-income communities that lack green space and other amenities. (New York Times [8])
 

Could Washington, D.C. be next in line for a gondola? Concerns about ridership and efficiency still surround the $80-100 million project, which would connect Georgetown and Arlington, Virginia. (DC Policy Center [11])
