Engagement Committee of Future Earth - Members sought - Deadline 14 March

Members are sought for the inaugural Engagement Committee of Future Earth, the global research platform providing the knowledge to accelerate our transformations to a sustainable world. Future Earth is a 10-year international research programme that will mobilise multi-disciplinary expertise, stakeholders and resources to ensure that scientific knowledge makes a larger contribution to societal debate and decision-making for sustainable development.

Sustainable Food Cities Network

The Soil Association in the UK has initiated a Sustainable Food Cities Network, which we hope will attract the interest of subscribers interested in this important dimension of the learning city. Furthermore, the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation is funding this network with public, private and third sector organisations and local communities working together to improve their food system and to use food as a catalyst to tackle local challenges.

The Sustainable and Just City - RIO+20 in session

The Sustainable and Just City  is one of many add-on events concerned with cities and sustainability at the current RIO + 20 Conference. The abstract for the event indicates that the following speakers were expected to be on the panel:

RIO+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development

There are 71 days to go until the RIO+20 conference in Brazil. This link provides details of a range of events within the conference including in food security and sustainable agriculture, sustainable cities and transition to a green economy, all of which may be of interest to PASCAL subscribers.

Sustainability Needs Cities

The Rio+20  Summit takes place in June. Pre-conference forums and papers are being distributed widely within a variety of subject categories. The entry below is right within  PASCAL's bailiwick and especially that of Peter Kearns's new initiative on cities of sustainable opportunity  within PIE.
