Skills forecast reveals risks and opportunities in Europe’s labour market

Cedefop’s latest forecast on the demand and supply of skills shows that the European Union can expect a net increase in employment of 8 million new jobs between 2010 and 2020. Nearly ten times more jobs (around 75 million) will be generated to replace workers who leave the labour market.

But skill mismatches and, in some sectors, skill shortages raise risks for the European labour market and the competitiveness of the European economy.

Emeritus Prof James Powell former Pro VC for academic enterprise at Salford University, now with PASCAL [leading the PUMR project, Ed], and Dr. Andrew Clark of Salford University have completed a very useful piece of research on the characteristics of Higher Education involved in Academic Enterprise.  Academic enterprise is similar to public engagement, outreach/reach out, community university partnerships, community engaged scholarship.

Dear Friends,

Special thanks to Talloires and GUNI for their terrific and very professional newsletter.  I continue in my archaic approach of doing this as an e-mail.  I had hoped to find the time to learn how to do the newsletters like others do, but have never caught up enough to take a day or so to teach myself.
