The report on the inaugural meeting of the U21 group concerned with Research Universities and Regional Engagement, held at the University of Melbourne [1] in February 2010 has been warmly received by U21, and the initiatives outlined therein are being encouraged. A lot of support was expressed for the work colleagues have proposed, and U21 is happy that this should now be a Collaborative Group of the organisation. The group is led by the University of Auckland [2], the University of Glasgow [3] and the University of Melbourne, with the support of the University of British Columbia [4] and Lund University [5], and co-ordinated by PASCAL from Glasgow.
A summary of the report can be found in the July newsletter of U21 [6].
The next meeting of the group will be on 6/7 October 2010 during the 7th International Workshop on Higher Education Reform organized by PASCAL Board member, Hans Schuetze [7] and PASCAL Associate, Garnet Grosjean [8] at the Centre for Policy Studies in Higher Education and Training at St. John’s College, the University of British Columbia, entitled Reform of University Governance - Trends, Policies, Fads, and Experience in Comparative Perspective [9].
