The University of Tasmania was officially founded on 1st January 1890, by an Act of the Colony's Parliament and was only the fourth university to be established in nineteenth-century Australia. The notion of partnerships characterises work at the University of Tasmania. A primary partnership is between staff and students who work together in the areas of core business for the University: achieving excellence in teaching and learning and research.
