What do we know about Social Capital and Policies for Schooling?

Paper from the PASCAL International Observatory Conference, "Making Knowledge Work: Building Sustainable Partnerships through Place Management, Social Capital and Lifelong Learning" October 2005, University of Stirling, Scotland This paper considers the existing knowledge base of social capital in the context of policies for schooling in Scotland. It draws on findings from three reviews completed recently in the Schools and Social Capital (SSC) Network of the Scottish Applied Educational Research Scheme (AERS). One group reviewed Scottish policy, a second considered research findings about Social Capital, and the third examined theories of social capital. Each group included policymakers, school professionals, community agencies and academics.
