Roy Leitch

I am a British National living in Scotland, working as a private consultant.

I am an Electrical Engineer by profession and established a significant research centre, at Heriot Watt University, in the field of Intelligent Systems.  I then entered senior management at Heriot Watt and ended up as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Deputy Principal) with responsibility for Teaching and Learning.  During this period I gained significant experience in management, e-learning projects, quality assurance and international education.  I left Heriot Watt to form the Interactive University which developed opportunities for Scottish universities and colleges to collaborate with universities internationally.  I retired in 2007 but have subsequently held part time positions and consultancies in international education companies and with the European Regional Information Society Association

I have been active in international education for more than 20 years, held senior management positions in both public and private education organisations, initiated and directed national e-learning programmes and developed quality assurance proceeses and procedures for higher education.

I am committed to the modernisation of Higher Education through the use of innovative pedagogies and technology.  I believe that human interaction is central to the education process and that technology should be used to liberate teachers from the overly didactic methods still used in most of academia.
