Buskerud County in Southern Norway, is a region of much diversity. It has a population of 250,000, The mountainous rural interior suffers depopulation and ageing, but has a strong winter tourist industry. As an industrial region Buskerud has declined, and it has a below average education and skill base. However the town of Konsberg (pop. 60,000) is globally successful, and Drammen is innovating out of a period of industrial decline, whereas Honefoss is still struggling. Over 80% of Buskerud’s economy is in the tertiary sector. Immigration is a social issue, and there are environmental concerns.
