Hello Friends,

Just past the summer solstice in British Columbia, the longest day of the year.  As in all the Northern parts of the world, this is a time of celebration and hope and the extra energy from all the hours of light.  Some pessimists note that this marks the beginning of the shortening of the days…not us!

Governments and employers must act to help people develop skills for green jobs

The greening of the European economy, as outlined in the EU 2020 strategy, will have profound effects on the labour market. Yet not enough is being done to make sure people are acquiring the right skills.

Cedefop’s new report Green skills and environmental awareness in vocational education and training shows that difficulties of employers to influence the development of new, green qualifications in VET and the uncertainty surrounding regulations and policies are slowing down developments towards a greener economy. Learning providers report difficulties in understanding the skill needs of employers and employees.

Preparation Under Way to Establish the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network (UNESCO-GLCN)

As part of its 60th anniversary events, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) organised an informal consultative meeting on establishing the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network (UNESCO-GLCN). The building of a learning region/area is one of the operational approaches which have been adopted in the international community to promote lifelong learning for all.

UIL is searching for an executive editor of the International Review of Education

UNESCO's Institute for Lifelong Learning in Hamburg is looking for an executive editor for the International Review of Education, with a deadline for application is postponed until 1 July.
