Global Health Symposium, 3rd September, Glasgow
The growing interest in Global Health issues will crystallise in 2015 with the publication of the Lancet Commission Report. The College's Global Health meeting on 3rd September will share experience and learning from initiatives in delivering health care in low income environments and ask what we, at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and in the wider Scottish community, can do to facilitate this work.
The Scottish Government currently funds 16 health-related projects under the Malawi Development Programme worth over £5.3 million, making this the biggest thematic focus of the Government's International Development Fund. These projects are making substantial improvements to health outcomes in Malawi, working on a wide range of medical initiatives from helping to quadruple the number of medical graduates at the College of Medicine in Blantyre, to the establishment of Malawi's first ever full psychiatry qualification. Due to the Scottish Government's substantial commitment to health issues in Malawi, Minister for Europe and International Development, Humza Yousaf MSP, will be in attendance.
