As Scotland’s population grows older, many universities are now looking at how they can respond to the challenges of increasing numbers of people in older age groups.

Strathclyde University has joined with Dublin City University and Arizona State University,  to champion the cause for promoting age friendly universities. The “age-friendly” designation means being committed to involving older adults in the core activities of the university, including education, research and career development. It also signifies a devotion to serving seniors and enhancing their health and wellbeing. Older adults themselves have many roles to play in this process: from students/learners and scholars to patients, clients and members of a demographic population with distinct gifts, needs and preferences.

Together these 3 universities have adopted 10 principles for age friendly universities.   This event will explore these principles and the idea of an age-friendly university from different perspectives.  It will include short presentations from each university focusing on how their university is engaging with older people. The event will provide an opportunity to meet colleagues and explore potential for collaboration in research and teaching between the universities.
