Italy: Elections, economic crisis and Europe - Free seminar invitation
As Italy prepares for elections in 2013, the finance markets and Europe remain anxious. What prospects for Italy? The return of Berlusconi, the re-emergence the Democratic Party or the continuation of the austerity “Professor” Monti? In the background there is also the 5 Star Movement and its social media following as well as the “separatist” and xenophobic Northern League. This election will also provide the framework for the election of a new President of the Republic. These elections will be a key decider of the direction of Italy.
Speaker: Associate Professor Bruno Mascitelli, Associate Dean (International), Senior Lecturer, European Studies and President of CESAA
Before joining academia, Bruno Mascitelli worked for Austrade (Australian Trade Commission) in Italy for over 17 years and was primarily engaged in export promotion. He also was employed by the US government in Melbourne to assist American companies enter the Australian market. In 2005 he completed his PhD at Melbourne University in the area of politics. He is the author of a number of books including “Australia and the Global Economy”, “The Italian Expatriate Vote in Australia” and “An Introduction to the Italian Economy Since 1945”. His research interests include International Business, European Studies and Italian-Australian Studies. He is President of the European Studies Association of Australia and he is also President of the School Council of the Victorian School of Languages.
This seminar is presented bt the EU Centre at RMIT in conjunction with Contemporary European Studies Association Australia (CESAA).
