A breakthrough in the European Union’s drive for recovery is scheduled for 2013 with stability, jobs and growth placed at the heart of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). Irish priorities will focus on economic governance in Europe, put the spotlight on youth unemployment and promote digital economy and trade agreements. Accepting Croatia as a new member of the European Union is also on the agenda.

2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Ireland's EU membership. This is the seventh time Ireland has held the rotating presidency. In this seminar H.E. Noel White, Ambassador of Ireland to Australia, will outline the full program of the Irish Presidency and its significance to Australia and Asia-Pacific Region.

H.E. Mr Noel White has been Ambassador of Ireland to Australia since February, 2012. Ambassador White started his career in the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1985. Since then he has held various positions, amongst them Director at the Permanent Representation to EU, Brussels; Director of Development Cooperation Division, Headquarters; Political Administrator, EU General Secretariat of the Council, Brussels; Director for Press & Information, Headquarters.  Ambassador White is also accredited to New Zealand, Fiji, SolomonIslands and Papua New Guinea.
