100 Resilient Cities - UK HQ set up in London

100 Resilient Cities, created by The Rockefeller Foundation, has announced that it will take up residency at the Urban Innovation Centre. From today, its office space in the building will act as the organisation’s regional headquarters to serve cities across Europe and the Middle East.

100 Resilient Cities is an organisation dedicated to helping cities around the world become more resilient to the physical, social and economic challenges that are a growing part of the 21st century. It partners with cities, including London, to provide them with advice and support to make them more resilient to shocks such as terrorism, infrastructure failure and lack of affordable housing.

The new regional headquarters at the Urban Innovation Centre, which is powered by Future Cities Catapult, was opened today by 100 Resilient Cities’ President, Michael Berkowitz, and Regional Director for Europe and Middle East, Cristiana Fragola. “We’re delighted to be expanding our operations,” said Berkowitz. “London is an important member of our global network, and this move will further strengthen our organization’s ability to partner with member cities across Europe and the Middle East.”

Peter Madden, CEO of Future Cities Catapult, said: “The arrival of 100 Resilient Cities at the Urban Innovation Centre is great news  Much of the work of the Future Cities Catapult focuses on making city systems more resilient, so we look forward to working with 100 Resilient Cities and UK businesses to make London and the rest of the world’s cities less susceptible to the effects of shocks from the likes of climate change, growing populations and shifting economies.”

Each of 100 Resilient Cities’ member cities receive support in establishing a Chief Resilience Officer in their city administration, along with advice on developing resilience strategies, access to a large pool of collaborating service providers and partner organisations, and membership of global network of cities in which to share best practice.
