I was walking around the office just now and bumped into John from the Strategic Partnerships team at NVPC...

If you are a working adult aged 35 or below with an idea of a community project you would like to bring to life, they have an interesting program for you!

It's called the Groundup Sandbox program, a non-profit incubator that serves as a launchpad for working adults to jumpstart their ideas to do good.

It's a 3-month journey where you'll gain access to skills and resources to kickstart your own meaningful and impactful community initiatives.

You can choose to attend different activities based on your needs and also have the opportunity to acquire funding for your ideas!

1. YES! Festival 2018: Learn about Heritage

The next part of YES! Festival brings us to a brand new location at the National Museum of Singapore!

Seniors and youths will come together for two exciting activities:

Amazing Race - Learn about Singapore's heritage at the National Museum of Singapore! History comes alive as you'll get to hear first hand stories from seniors who lived it.

Mystery Game - Then, we'll come back to NVPC where you'll get to partner up with a senior / youth and participate in a mystery game that promises to bring loads of laughs and fun!

Come join in this refreshing experience and make new friends from totally different age groups!

2. Role-Playing Real-life Scenarios Faced by Families of Special Needs Youths and Adults with Challenging Behaviours

Through role-playing, participants will be thrust into real-life scenarios faced by families of special needs youths and adults with challenging behaviours.

Based on the facilitator's narrative and prompting of input from participants, we will consider the perspectives of the family members, the members of the public, and the special needs individual.

We will also be challenged to come up with strategies to address the situation and witness their ramifications.

Just as significantly, we will also move beyond addressing the scenarios to come up with follow-up solutions that can make a broader, longer-term change to society, in terms of changing our mindset and initiating long-lasting action.

3. What’s Next in Single Parents’ Fight for Equal Access to Housing?

This year, housing rules were relaxed to allow more divorced parents to buy subsidised housing immediately upon divorce.

However, many other single-parent families continue to face challenges in securing affordable and secure housing:

Unmarried mothers and their children are still not recognised as a family nucleus; divorcees still cannot access public rental housing immediately upon divorce; others still experience financial stress, strained family relationships and long waits.

So what more can we do? What other housing policies need to change for single-parent families to have a place to call their own?

We warmly invite single parents and their children and members of the public to engage in an in-depth dialogue session with three Parliamentarians: Mr Louis Ng (Nee Soon GRC), Ms Rahayu Mahzam (Jurong GRC), and Ms Anthea Ong (Nominated Member of Parliament).

5. Dyad Evening: Living Life on Your Own Terms

One of the biggest challenges in life is to set and keep healthy personal boundaries in our lives.

Just like a customs check when entering a country, well established and communicated boundaries keep the bad out and let the good in our lives.

Poor boundary management leads to continual problems. Having too many personal boundaries creates isolation; having too few draws constant violation.

Having a combination of too many boundaries in some areas and too few in other areas is a common variation that creates alternating isolation and violation.

Theme for November 2018: Living Life On Your Terms - How to live an empowered life through healthy personal boundaries.

Come and enjoy an evening of safe and deep communication about this important area of life.
