IHRR Summer Seminar Webinar Series: Covid-19 food insecurity in small cities - 13th July, 2020:
COVID-19 is exposing the link between drastic food (in)security and loss of complete income in small cities. Although the pandemic is unfolding to be an urban crisis, little insight is available regarding how small cities in the global south are affected by the pandemic.
This presentation will share accounts of lived experiences of urban residents through the lens of food (in)security during the lockdown in Mongla and Noapara located in disaster prone southwestern Bangladesh. We will also share how the pandemic experience has been different than previous natural hazard induced disaster experiences in the cities, and thereby explore similarities and contrasts/tensions associated with long term resilience in small cities in the global south.
