On-Line Debate #1: Validation of Non-formal and Informal Learning (VNIL)

I am pleased to inform you that the OBSERVAL-Net project has launched today an on-line Debate on VNIL issues. We are experiencing a new activity on-line and would like to encourage you to joining us. The debate has a moderator (Ruud Duvekot) and a defender and an opponent to the given motion. You just need to visit the Observatory http://www.observal-net.eu, follow the button to the debates and read the statements. You are welcome to comment the statements and also vote for or against the motion.

Please inform colleagues and other contacts that you think will be interested in VNIL. The debate will only last for 14 days, so please, try to disseminate this information very quickly. Thank you very much. Below you will find a sample dissemination message that you might want to use or adapt (or even translate!).

I hope to meet you on-line in the first OBSERVAL-Net Debate!

Best regards,

Carme

The OBSERVAL-Net project has organised its first on-line debate (following the Oxford Debates style) on VNIL issues. The first motion on debate is:

Non-formal Learning outcomes are equivalent to formal Learning outcomes. Therefore, universities should value and assess them equally for purposes of awarding qualifications.

Do you agree? Do you disagree? Whatever is your answer to these questions, you can join the debate! The discussion is open!

  • Moderator: Ruud Duvekot (InHolland University, NL)
  • Defending motion: Arnaud Salmon (CIUF - Conseil Interuniversitaire de la Communauté française, BE)
  • Opposing motion: Jenny Page (University of Ioannina, GR)
  • Invited Experts: Jean-Marie Filloque (University of Brest, FR) and Joy Van Kleef (Canadian Institute for Recognizing Learning, Canada)

What can you do in the OBSERVAL-Net debates?

  1. You can follow the discussion and the input from experts
  2. You can write your comments, which might influence the debate
  3. You can vote against or for the motion in several occasions (you can change your vote as the debate goes on, depending if the contribution from the speakers make you re-consider your previous positioning)

The OBSERVAL-Net debates are open to all and free of charge.

Do not miss the opportunity to discuss aspects of the Validation of Non-formal and Informal Learning in a specialised environment where reflection and debate are the main objectives!
