PASCAL to Assist Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Wisconsin-Illinois Auto Region
The Economic Development Administration (EDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce announced today a 5.9 million dollar grant to the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater for a multi-year, collaborative initiative that will support innovation and entrepreneurship in a six-county region in Wisconsin and Illinois.
The initiative builds on strong collaborations that have emerged among six colleges and universities, regional economic development agencies, local authorities, and both state governments.
“PASCAL’s new Regional Prosperity Project is proud to be part of this exciting new initiative,” said Dr. Robert E. Gleeson, Co-Director of PASCAL and Director of Northern Illinois University’s Center for Governmental Studies. “Entrepreneurs within the region will need to create jobs that meet the challenges of globalization. PASCAL’s world-wide network of executives with experience in economic development, local government, and higher education will work directly with the leaders of this initiative to help them leverage the world’s best practices and to help companies create jobs by solving critical problems.”
“This grant demonstrates the EDA’s world-class commitment to helping regions in the U.S. restore prosperity for their residents,” said Jarl Bengtsson, PASCAL’s chair and a former senior executive with the Paris-based Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD).
