The historical agreement reached by 195 governments at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP 21) in Paris on 12th December 2015, is a turning point in respect of global efforts to tackle climate change. The mandate to all countries in the world is clear: we need concerted efforts, action and investments towards a low carbon, resilient and sustainable future. Many universities across the world perform state-of-the art research on matters related to climate change, both in respect of mitigation, and adaptation. They are thus well placed to becoming instrumental in undertaking both basic and applied research, in  support of the current and future efforts in respect of mitigation and adaptation, and in assisting decision-making.

In order to cater for the documentation and dissemination of high calibre research being performed by universities across the world today,  the International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management is now calling for papers for a special issue titled:

"The Role of Higher Education Institutions in Addressing the Mitigation and Adaptation Challenges".

A specialist Symposium will also be held in Manchester, UK on 1-2 September 2016, and further details will be made available soon. Learning Cities experts may like to contribute to this special issue publication  (e.g.  transformational learning, lifelong learning and adaptation).
