'The Role of Universities in Promoting Lifelong Learning' was the topic of a seminar in the framework of the 60th Anniversary of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in Hamburg, Germany on 25 May 2012. PASCAL was delighted that its co-director, Professor Michael Osborne, was invited to be one of the speakers.

On the previous day there was a public lecture programme, which included a contribution from the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova.

The programmes for both events can be found below. Papers emanating from the seminar and lecture will be published in a special issue of the International Review of Education.

A number of delegates and staff of UIL are shown in the attached photograph. These include Professor Osborne and fellow Co-director, Professor Catherine Odora Hoppers as well as the founding secretary general of PASCAL, Professor Chris Duke and associate, Professor Norman Longworth.
