World Education Forum ends with the Incheon Declaration

Around 1500 participants joined the Forum with more than 100 Ministers in the lead, UNESCO and other UN sister bodies, a huge variety of stakeholder, and around 25 delegates from civil society.

A huge number of sessions all around the overarching goal “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” with a time frame of the year 2030. This goal is in full coherence with what has been included into the new Sustainable Development Goals which shall be decided on in the UN Summit in New York in September this year.

The final version will become available soon. For the moment please see this page on the UNESCO site.

It is still a long process as the Framework of Action which will provide further details of implementation and monitoring is not to be expected to be ready before spring 2016. A number of targets and indicators are still under debate for further clarification, general consensus and acceptance.

For the adult education community the WEF could be called a success. The importance of lifelong learning has even been raised to be part of the title. However, time will show how much could be achieved, and that needs continued advocacy efforts.
