Invitation to Symposium on Entrepreneurial Learning City Regions

Following the publication of the UNESCO Beijing Declaration on Learning Cities adopted in October 2013, the Swansea Bay City Region, the pilot UNESCO Learning City for the UK, seeks to keep up the momentum generated at that conference. Swansea University have are hosting a symposium on The Entrepreneurial Learning City Region.

The symposium will be held in Swansea on Wednesday May 21st 2014, as part of a Festival of Entrepreneurship organised for the following two days, May 22nd and May 23rd.

This Symposium seeks to review successful, and less successful, practice in various cities and regions and to clarify and promote the concept of an entrepreneurial learning city in a regional context. It is intended to bring together specialists from various academic fields and disciplines and international and regional policy makers.

In this Symposium we shall seek to address the importance of  fostering entrepreneurial skills and attitudes in the development of a successful learning city. We shall also seek to review successful practice in the development of an entrepreneurial “ecosystem” in a learning city region context. The Symposium should facilitate an ongoing and fruitful exchange between specialists in the entrepreneurial field and their counter-parts in the learning city movement. An important product of the Symposium will be an edited book comprising chapters written by Symposium participants and other experts.
