USA Virtual Conference debates key issues impacting on learning cities and regions in today’s challenging times

The American Association for Adult & Continuing Education annual conference has taken on a new look in 2020 using a virtual format for its annual conference 27-30 October 2020. The virtual conference environment was used for the very first time in its history and opened Wednesday with cocktails and a welcome from Dr Mary Alfred, President and the President-elect Dr Thomas Cox. We were able to chat informally and engage in warm-up activities using for example a conference quiz.

PASCAL Learning Cities Provide Innovative Models for Development in Turkey

A seminar hosted by Ege University, Izmir held at the Ataturk Cultural Centre, presented an opportunity for Dr Rob Mark, PASCAL Learning Cities Coordinator, to inform professionals including university staff  and residents about the strengths of working together to build sustainable learning cities for a better future. Izmir is a city of almost 5 million people and Ege University has a population of more than 50,000 students. 

PASCAL Faiths and Learning Cities Network organises its first meeting in New York

The new PASCAL Faiths and Learning Cities Network had its first Skype meeting with delegates from the USA, UK and Israel. The main purpose is to bring together interested scholars and practitioners in this area to share ideas and experiences about how the network should proceed.

Ukrainian Universities move to become Lifelong Learning Universities

Centres for Third Age Education ( CTAE) is a project  which is supporting the development of human capital to promote social inclusion of older people  in  Azerbaijan, Russia and the Ukraine through formal and informal learning. The aim is to encourage older people  to participate more fully  in society.

The project has  focused on the setting up of Centres for Third Age Education (CTAE)  and the training of staff to work in these centres.

The project is funded through the  TEMPUS programme of the European Union.
