Discussing Learning Cities and Social Transformation in Greece

A two day seminar was held in Ioannina, the capital city of Epirus (Greece) on the 16th &  17th of December 2013. The event was co-organized by the Greek General Secretariat of Lifelong Learning and the University of Ioannina.

The seminar attracted some 160 participants who discussed the importance of learning cities in transforming local practices of life long and life wide education. Guest speaker was PASCAL’s Associate Dr. Eugenia Arvanitis.

The conference was organized in the context of the European Agenda for promoting Adult Learning.

The Agenda defines the focus for European cooperation in adult learning policies for 2012-20. It identifies five priorities for adult learning in Europe for 2012-14:

  1. Making lifelong learning and mobility a reality
  2. Improving the quality and efficiency of education and training
  3. Promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship through adult learning
  4. Enhancing the creativity and innovation of adults and their learning environments
  5. Improving the knowledge base on adult learning and monitoring the adult learning sector
