Mayor's SDG Fellowship Programme in Kerala
Today is the final day to apply for the Mayor's SDG Fellowship Programme in Kerala. This Fellowship has been conceptualised to provide short-term academic/research support for the Mayors in the Municipal Corporations of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, & Kannur, who are formulating local policies and programmes on a wide range of themes.
Since SDGs provide an internationally accepted framework for monitoring the impact of policies and schemes, the Mayors are keen for localisation of SDGs. While there are several competing interests calling for the attention of the Mayors, it has been widely accepted that urban planning is the core strategy for sustainable urbanisation. Hence, these Fellowships will offer an opportunity for the Mayors to harness the power of planning and design skills required for translating many of their development strategies, particularly driven by localisation of SDGs.
The selected candidates will be involved in review of various documents and strategies apart from researching on the contextual opportunities/barriers for advancing SDGs. The Fellows will get a direct and immersive experience in the city level development planning, identifying key themes and place-based strategies required for sustainable development and avenues for presenting their skills and knowledge to the Mayors and a wide range of local and state level institutions.
