Major new programme led from University of Glasgow - International Master in Adult Education for Social Change

The University of Glasgow and its consortium partners, the University of Malta, the Open University of Cyprus and Tallinn University are delighted to announce the successful outcome of the joint ‘International Master in Adult Education for Social Change’ 2015 bid for ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarship funding.

The funding will provide for a total of 55+ scholarships for three intakes of students over a five year period (2016 – 2020), and will involve study and practical work experience in the UK, Malta and Estonia with an optional summer School in Malaysia at Universite Sains Malaysia.

This new interdisciplinary Masters degree is based on a shared concern about social inequality and a belief that adult educators can contribute to social change based on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. It brings together European and international universities, VET institutions, private companies, community-based organisations and policy units who recognize that Adult Education for Social Change is a powerful tool in producing competent, critical citizens and for developing just, equitable and democratic societies.

This innovative 2 year Masters programme has been received with great enthusiasm by Prof. Heribert Hinzen, Senior Policy Advisor at Deutscher Volkshochschul-Verband DVV International, “Excellent work done, and so many opportunities to work on this jointly, and extend into many more areas. This is the best news of the summer” and also by Prof. Arne Carlsen, Director of UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning commented that he is, “……delighted, that the European Commission will prioritise this”. Interested applicants should note an official website will be launched on 1st September;

in the meantime interested applicants can find further details on the postgraduate programme page.
