In memoriam of Professor Andy Furlong

Andy FurlongAndy Furlong, a PASCAL Associate for the past 7 years, passed away on Saturday 30th January 2017. 

Andy was Professor of Social Inclusion and Education in the School of Education at Glasgow University and Dean of Research for the College of Social Sciences.  He was an internationally renowned scholar and a leader in the field of Youth Studies, particularly with regard to understanding processes of youth transitions.

The ASEM Education and Research Hub for Lifelong Learning (ASEM LLL Hub), Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, Denmark and the Philippine Normal University (PNU), in cooperation with Asia-Europe Foundation, Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark and the National Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NAUCP), invite you to submit your abstracts for paper presentations to the 1st International Conference of European and Asian Researchers and Educators on Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development (I-CEARE 2017).

Cork City, Ireland to host Learning Cities Conference in 2017 – new PASCAL LCN Director discusses with President of Ireland

The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning has announced the Irish city of Cork to host the 3rd International Conference on Learning Cities to be held 18-20 September 2017.  The conference promises to be another important step forward in placing lifelong learning at the centre of sustainable city development, especially inclusive and equitable quality education for all.  Earlier conferences were held in Beijing and Mexico City.

Two new projects concerned with Global Challenges led from Glasgow

The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) has provided the University of Glasgow with a Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) grant to support cutting edge research that addresses the challenges faced by Official Development Assistance(ODA)/ Lower and Middle Income (LMIC) countries. It will do this by supporting challenge-led disciplinary and interdisciplinary research, strengthening capacity for research in the UK and in LMIC countries and responding to emergencies where there is an urgent research need.
