Association for Academic Outreach (AFAO) Annual Conference, April 27, 2019
We are inviting submissions for our Association for Academic Outreach (AFAO) Annual Conference.
Context
We are interested in critical reflections on national and international higher education outreach policy and practice and its implications for practitioners, academics, students and their communities.
We invite contributions that examine (but are not limited to):
- Perspectives on current outreach as practised by academic faculty or partnerships of academics with others, including students
- Reflections on the broader context shaping outreach e.g. targeting, data, markestisation/massification
- Analyses of processes by which (in)equity and (dis)advantage emerge through the experiences of delivering, taking part in or researching outreach
This could consider pertinent questions such as:
- What is the specific value and contribution of academics as ‘actors’ in outreach?
- How is academic outreach shaped by broader concerns shaping the higher education sector including massificiation, marketisation, globalisation and precarity?
- How can academic outreach be theorised or understood as part of academic career trajectories?
- How do questions of (in)equity and (dis)advantage emerge through the experiences of delivering, taking part in or researching outreach?

We invite contributions in a number of different formats, including
- Five-minute ‘lightning’ papers;
