  • After Tuesday’s devastating attack in NYC in which a driver plowed a rented truck into a crowded bike path in lower Manhattan, an important reminder that vehicle attacks are not inevitable and that physical changes to the traffic landscape can indeed save lives. “Cars kill, in acts of terror and everyday collisions,” writes CityLab’s Laura Bliss, “but cities have tools to stop it.” While the city's first response was to construct barriers across bike lanes, many cyclists are speaking out, wondering if these new features are the best long-term solution.
