EcCoWell2 workshops organised by Datong Community College in cooperation with Experimental Farm of National Taiwan University
In 2019, Datong Community College in cooperation with Experimental Farm of National Taiwan University held a series of the EcCoWell2 workshops to teach and train the senior citizens on how to make a step further to build green organic farms on their rooftops in community.
Also, there are several lectures conducted in Datong Community College to explain that “Green roofs” not only lower the temperature and reduce carbon emissions but also allow residents to enjoy own-grown fresh Vegetables and pollution-free agricultural products.
The idea of within the “Green roofs” is expected to get more senior citizens involved in order to find the core value of the neighborhood in which they live and to establish a self-support and mutual assistance community. This series of workshops and lectures get the public sector, local schools and citizens to work together and is expected to generate a new type of organic solidarity within the local neighborhood to promote a sustainability basic lifestyle of energy conservation and carbon reduction and environment protection. In addition, practicing in the EcCoWell2 project can be a learning hub for senior citizens to explore how important the great nature is to our daily life and what we can do to be friendly to protect our environment.
Through the practice within EcCoWell2 project integrates different resources in the community and from the public sectors as well. We have farming tutors and instructors, who are local citizens and used to learn all these greening and farming ideas from Datong Community College. Overall, we believed that practicing in the EcCoWell2 project can also reach the goal to promote building partnerships and fostering healthy living and well-being for the senior citizens in Taipei City.
