Learning from Men’s Sheds: Reflecting on the movement’s Australian origins, global trajectories & its radical implications for learning in the community
Date: Thursday 24 March
Time: 10 pm (AEDT); 11 am (GM); 6 am (CDT)
Barry Golding playfully created the idea of 'shedagogy' 8 years ago, having discovered community 'Men's Sheds' by chance through his field research in rural Australia 20 years ago.
Barry become entranced with the power and potential of the now-global movement, that a decade ago logically morphed also into 'Women's Sheds'. He has deeply immersed himself in research into learning in informal community contexts as an international researcher and community advocate.
This presentation,' Learning from Men’s Sheds: Reflecting on the movement’s Australian origins, global trajectories and its radical implications for learning in the community illustrates Barry's contention that we can learn much from looking at learning in the least obvious, small rural communities, powered by the most unlikely group of older people in the community, transforming their lives well beyond the formal and the academy.
Registration: Any PASCAL members interested in attending this presentation, who is not part of the Urban, Rural LCN please email Dr. Leone Wheeler - [email protected] for meeting details and see below for specifics.
