Newsletter January 2022 – Education and Learning

Happy New Year! We started 2022 with a topic of great significance and global reach: Education and Learning.
Honouring World Education Day on January 24, UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Education, Stefania Giannini, calls for a new social contract for education and emphasises that cities are key to transforming education and learning.
Lilian Atieno Oloo portrays Kenya's Toy Library Association, emphasising how playing is an essential part of education for sustainable development, the Youth Development and Empowerment Initiative YEDI writes on the importance of sexual and reproductive health education in Lagos, Nigeria, and Lindiwe Matlali reflects on the potential of e-education for South Africa's youth – in times of the pandemic and beyond.
Not only since the pandemic has digitalisation been a widely regarded topic. With our February Spotlight on Digitalisation and Governance, we want to find out how digitalisation can advance sustainable urban development and make cities more liveable for all their citizens.
Furthermore, we are excited to announce that in late February we will kick off another one of our beloved country series, this time on Bangladesh!
