Digitalisation and its relation to democracy is a topic that increasingly unfolds its duality, especially in the context of adult learning and education (ALE). The context paper “Digitalisation and Democracy” considers the concept of democracy, discusses digital rights in Europe and gives concrete key policy recommendations highlighting among others the need to recognise and support the role of ALE.

Citizenship education has become central to the field of adult education. DVV International’s work in North Africa is based on the four pillars of citizenship education: learning to know, learning to be, learning to live together, and learning to do. This work has now been translated into a photo feature recounting the journey of champions of citizenship education in Tunisia.

In the framework of the Inclusive Cashier project, DVV International offered a training course with elements of dual vocational education and piloted a training course for a group of 12 people with disabilities. The training ended with a practical exam in the shop and a theoretical exam at the college. Six participants passed both examinations.

Because most Moldovian educators have emigrated to other countries, community learning centres are experiencing a huge demand for new specialists. DVV International Moldova therefore reconfigurated the existing curriculum globALE training programme into a concentric structure, based on levels of proficiency.

The regional office of DVV International South America has produced ten audiovisuals providing evidence of the learning process and the impact of adult learning and education. The videos with the title CONTRA VIENTO y MAREA were used, among other things, in the form of radio programmes.

The Adult Learning and Education System-Building Approach (ALESBA) describes a complex system which claims to take into account all components for a sustainable adult education system. In Uganda, DVV International and its partners piloted ALESBA in four districts. The goal of the collaboration was to systematically improve adult education using a systems approach.

In 2020, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in Uganda, with support from DVV International, embarked on the process of revitalizing and broadening adult learning and education (ALE) data management in order to develop a more compliant and robust ALE management information system.
