I hope you are healthy and staying safe through this challenging time.
 
The Steering Committee and Local Organizing Committee have decided to postpone the Talloires Network Leaders Conference due to COVID-19. Our decision to postpone TNLC2020 was based on the reality that the months ahead remain uncertain. Many countries around the world are continuing to implement measures that restrict the movement of people and we do not yet know when we will be able to safely gather in large groups. Because we do not underestimate the importance of a face-to-face exchange of ideas and strategies among our members and partners, we have committed to TNLC2021 – to be jointly hosted by Tufts University and Harvard University, September 30 – October 3, 2021. Importantly, the Talloires Network will organize and publicize virtual convening opportunities focused on public health and COVID-19 response in order to reinforce relationships and learning among members throughout 2020. 
 
The mission of the Talloires Network is more essential than ever before. I am encouraged by the actions our member universities are taking to confront and overcome this common threat. To capture and share the practical steps they are taking, the Open Society University Network – Talloires Network educational partnership has recently launched COV-AID: Communities Of Virtual Alliance & Inter-Dependence. The COV-AID webinar series entitled “Adapting to the New Reality: Civically Engaged Universities Offer Strategies and Hope” aims to serve as a beacon of light, providing uplifting content and strengthening public support for universities. The COV-AID Student Engagement Award will connect undergraduate students around the world to critically reflect on the ways in which they are contributing to civic life during a time of uncertainty. Ten student award winners will receive a cash prize of 2,500 USD. The application deadline is 1 June 2020. 
 
We are pleased to announce that Newcastle University (England) has joined the Network’s growing Engaged Membership. Additionally, our coalition of Signatory Members has expanded to 402 engaged universities in 78 countries and we have forged a new partnership with Vietnam Campus Engage. It is my belief that COVID-19 will reveal the best in each of us as we unite to rapidly mobilize our shared values: commitment to the public good, the exchange of ideas, and collective action.
