United States-Pakistan Higher Education Initiative on Civic Engagement: Building Capacity for Student and Community Youth Leadership
Innovations in Civic Participation is hosting an Orientation Seminar from March 1-3 for its United States-Pakistan Higher Education Initiative on Civic Engagement project. The conference gathers delegates from five U.S. universities (George Washington University; University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; University of Nebraska-Omaha; and Tulane University) and five Pakistani universities (National University of Sciences and Technology; Dow University of Health Sciences; University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences; Quaid i Azam University; and Fatima Jinnah University).
The seminar is part of a one-year collaborative exchange program designed to enhance the capacity of Pakistani and U.S. universities and to engage students and faculty in civic engagement and social responsibility activities. Events will take place at George Washington University and will be publicized on ICP’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
During the three-day seminar, participating university delegates will engage in discussions about civic engagement and social responsibility on their campuses and within their communities. Discussion topics include concepts and strategies for civic engagement; community partnerships and reciprocity; student and youth development; engaged scholarship; and institutional policy and planning. The seminar also features guest speakers from the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State.
Following their time in Washington, DC, Pakistani delegates will visit the campuses of their respective U.S. partner universities to meet with student, faculty and community leaders and engage in further discussions about civic engagement.
