Londoners are up in arms about the fact that their public spaces are being sold to corporations without explanation or apology. In response, this new map of pseudo-public spaces in London—the first of its kind—is “not just an attempt to make the liquidation of our collective assets visible, it is also a call to action.” Writes Green Party Leader Sian Berry in The Guardian, “Being able to know what rules you are being governed by, and how to challenge them, is a fundamental part of democracy.”

Mexico City took a big step last week towards making the city more affordable and transit-friendly by eliminating mandatory parking minimums—city regulations that require builders to add a set number of parking spots for every new unit of housing they create. Given the high cost of “free” parking in the U.S., where parking takes up 30% of urban land area, many hope that U.S. cities will soon follow suit.
