The Value of Nostalgia Therapy for Fourth Age Learners with Dementia

The report of the PASCAL-PIMA SIG on learning in later life suggested the value of a four stage approach to learning in the lifecycle with the Third Age (51-75) and Fourth Stage (75+) covering the subject of learning in later life. While there is a growing experience and research bass on Third Age learning, less is available on the difficult Fourth Age when illnesses such as dementia are becoming more prevalent. Much would be gained by exchanges on good practice models to learning and well-being in the Fourth Stage of the lifecycle.

Big Data in Bulgaria: Non-formal Education - Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century.

As Catherine Lido was presenting in New York, I was very pleased to be presenting, in parallel, similar material based on the work that our Urban Big Data Centre has been undertaking at a conference in Sofia entitled, Non-formal Education - Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century.

I’m delighted to report following my attendance and keynote presentation at the conference “Education for Values: Continuity and Context” in Moldova on April 27-28, 2018, PASCAL has been able to re-inforce its co-operation with DVV whose offices in Eastern Europe were represented strongly. This week I met Oleg Smirnov, Director, Representative office DVV International in Ukraine to discuss further co-operation during his visit to Scotland.
