SA-UK University Staff Doctoral Programme (USDP) - Phase 2 Grant

We are pleased to announce that the University of Johannesburg in collaboration with the University of Zululand and the University of Glasgow has been awarded a grant of 3,976,000 Rand by the Department of Higher Education and Training in South Africa and the British Council through the Newton Fund in order to enhance the capacity of 10 permanent academics in South Africa through doctoral studies in the following fields: local development; entrepreneurship, sustainable development goals 1, 2 and 4, education and fourth industrial revolution technologies that will support municipalities in local development to improve the quality of lives of communities.

The HEInnovate project funded by the EC and OECD offers a range of dimensions for consideration in measuring the extend to which HEIs are entrepreneurial. A concept paper produced by the project is attached.

Innovation in Higher Education in Europe - a new report with PASCAL inputs

The final report and annexes of case studies from a Study on Innovation in Higher Education undertaken for the European Union in 2013 led by LSE Enterprise and the Panteia Group have just been published. PASCAL undertook two of the case studies within this study, which are found in the annex as follows:

Barcelona as European Capital of Innovation

Barcelona has been selected as the first European Capital of Innovation "for introducing the use of new technologies to bring the city closer to citizens. The new Capital of Innovation award looks at the outstanding achievements of cities building up an innovation ecosystem "ie a system which links the citizens (People) with a built environment (Place) and public organisations and policy makers (Public) and through business (Private). The award went to Barcelona for "introducing the use of new technologies to bring the city closer to citizens".
