GOOD NEWS

CLAYSS launches the Central and Eastern Europe Program

As requested by various Organizations and Universities from the region interested in the Latin American Service-Learning model, as from April we will be contributing with them with training, material development and other activities for the building of an Eastern European Service-learning Network. We expect a multicultural dialogue with Organizations that are already developing Service-Learning or programs alike in the region, as also with Universities and other organizations. We hope this opportunity helps to promote a mutual enrichment, contributing to the improvement of educational quality and inclusion in the region.

Awards Ceremony for the “Educación Solidaria 2015” Contest

With the distinguished presence of the Assistant Secretary of Education and other National Education authorities the Awards ceremony took place on Thursday 7th 2016 in the assembly hall of the Executive Tower of the Presidency of the Republic of Uruguay. During the ceremony, 13 awards were delivered to service-learning projects developed in educational institutions, including a kindergarten and a Teachers training college. Also, Students and teachers testimonies were presented.

The Catholic University from Uruguay Joins the Support Program

The first onsite workshop from the Service-Learning Support Program-Higher Education took place on April 6th in the Catholic University from Uruguay. Being the first activity, Nieves Tapia gave an open conference attended by Mariana Marturet, Head of University outreach and Community Service and more than 100 teachers from different educational levels as also social organization leaders. The program began with a speech given by Dr. Álvaro Pacheco SJ Vice-Chancellor of Academic Environment.

Launching the second year of the Support Program for Educational Solidarity Centers

On April, activities of the Support Program for Educational Solidarity Centers from CLAYSS Uruguay in alliance with ANEP, EL Chajá and Fe y Alegría began. During 2016, the program will include 20 Educational Centers from the different formal educational subsystems from Uruguay. It aims to strengthen current service-learning experiences, contributing to its sustainability and articulation with the Institutional Educational Project.

 
SOLIDARITY YOUTH

Multidisciplinary Solidarity Project from Uruguay works with autistic children

Since 2015, students from the Higher Technical School Pedro Blanes Viale from Mercedes (Soriano, Uruguay), develop the project “Buscando tu mirada” (Expecting your gaze).
Students designed and produced furniture and educational material for the 22 children that nowadays attend the Educational Center "Pequeño Valiente" from the same town. There, autistic children and youth receive care services, being the only institution that attends this population in the region.
70 students from the vocational training centers of carpentry, electricity, general mechanics and car mechanics and form the Higher Professional Education Center for Textile Art worked together with 20 teachers.
This Project is one of the award winners of the “Educación Solidaria 2015” contest from Uruguay.

 

IARSLCE Conference Call 2016

The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) is now accepting proposals for the 2016 conference in New Orleans. The conference will take place September 26 - 28, 2016 at the Roosevelt New Orleans. The theme of this year's conference is Reaffirming Our Purpose, Bridging Our Understandings & Broadening Our Collective Impact.

IJRSLCE Call for Submissions

The International Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IJRSLCE) invites manuscripts for consideration for the fourth issue of the journal to be published in fall 2016. As you know, IJRSLCE is the annual, peer-reviewed, online journal of IARSLCE. Its mission is to disseminate rigorous scholarship on service-learning and community engagement, including research, theory, research reviews and book reviews. We seek to represent the breadth of scholarship in the service-learning and community engagement field, with articles from different countries and disciplines and representing a range of methodologies including community-engaged scholarship.
