Introducing the SHLC Bulletin!

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our first SHLC Bulletin. In each Bulletin we will be sharing the latest publications, events and blogs from across the whole SHLC team as well as sharing the news and views from the sustainable communities sector. The SHLC Bulletin is intended to be an internal update keeping all SHLC team members up to speed on current and upcoming research, events and more.

Do you have an article you want to promote? A new member of your team you would like to introduce? Have you read a recent paper you think would be useful for the SHLC team to read or is there an upcoming conference we should keep a look out for? Please share with our project team to be included in the next SHLC Bulletin: [email protected].

Time passes very quickly, we are now more than 18 months into our project. Looking back at what we have already accomplished, from the workshops in Glasgow to the recent fieldwork in Rwanda, I feel very proud to have the chance to work with so many wonderful colleagues from very diverse cultural backgrounds to address global urban challenges. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to the SHLC family and thank you for your input into and hard work on this very complex, but exciting project.

"The photo shows informal settlements at the front and elite housing at the back. The poor and the rich live in the same city but in a completely different built environment. The rich enjoy quality housing, planned built environment and urban services. The poor people live in wetland, unplanned areas and shanties. The symbolic photo shows the dominance of city administration through the white big building at the furthest corner. The government is the guardian of this divided city and need to find ways to reduce the socio-spatial division."
