The idea for our Big Tent theme this year[1] arose from thinking about the location in Sicily of the 7-9 October of the 2015 PASCAL Annual Conference, "on the frontier of fortress Europe"; its theme is Connecting Cites and Universities at Strategic Frontiers.

Engaging communities and universities in the public good

The recent wave of tragic deaths in the Mediterranean Sea of Mothers, Fathers, Children and Babies underscores the depth of inequality, which persists, or even increases, in our troubled world.  The fact that some of these people have been headed to the very city, Catania, where we are meeting, means that we must no longer speak of higher education or universities in technical, managerial or abstracted terms.

12th PASCAL International Observatory Conference - Catania - 7-9 October 2015 - Symposia

Several conference attendees have requested symposium sessions in which special interest groups can present their work. If groups are interested in such a session please note this intent when submitting your abstract. It will be possible for you to propose between 3 and 5 separate papers during a period of 1.5 hours in parallel session. This provides an opportunity to showcase the work of your organization as well as organize future work with potential members.

Paris Symposium in honour of Jarl Bengtsson, co-founder and first chair of the PASCAL Board - 9 April Paris

This is a reminder that there will be a Symposium in honour of Jarl Bengtsson which will take place in Paris  on April 9. All PASCAL-ers  who can make it there are welcome (because of limited space please inform Mike Osborne or Hans Schuetze of your intention). A poster and program are featured below and attached.

University-Community Engagement Conference 2015 (UCEC2015)

Navitas and the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) are organising the University-Community Engagement Conference on the Gold Coast in Australia from 1st-3rd November 2015 (UCEC2015).
