Professor Dylan Jones-Evans Inaugural Lecture; Dylan will present "The Entrepreneurial University – an oxymoron or an engine of growth for the local economy?" Wednesday 2nd July 2014 6pm-8:30pm venue: 2Q49 at the University of the West of England.

Whilst there are some who still consider universities to be ivory towers that are isolated from the realities of industry, many higher education institutions have adopted a more business-focused approach to their activities. Despite this, various government reports have shown that much remains to be done to ensure that the various activities generated by the university sector are maximised for the benefit of the UK economy. In his inaugural professorial lecture,

“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Work with All, For Development of All)

In his inaugural address to the 16th Lok Sabha on June 9, 2014, the President Shri Pranab Mukherjee described the thrust of the new government in this principle—“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, while speaking in the parliament on the motion of thanks to the President’s address on June 11, 2014, appealed to the nation that development should be a people’s movement.

GUNi moves to the Association of Catalan Public Universities

At the end of 2013, because of the difficult economic conditions that affected Spain and Catalonia, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), jointly with GUNi and in agreement with UNESCO and the United Nations University (UNU), has decided to transfer the hosting institution of the GUNi Secretariat from UPC to the Association of Catalan Public Universities (ACUP).

Learning Mobility with Non-Industrialised Countries

The increasing interest in learning mobility with non-industrialized countries (LEMONOC) has been taken up in future European educational policies (E4A and Horizon 2020). The European Commission has launched the E4A programme (2014-2020) aiming “to ensure that education and training systems deliver the knowledge and skills needed in an increasingly globalized labour market”.
