Removal of A, B, C designation for academic journals in Australia
Dear Friends,
Susan Goff from Australia has just alerted us to what may appear to be a rather esoteric but interesting development, the removal of so-called quality rankings for scholarly journals in merit and quality assessment measures for scholars in Australia. These regulations have had a negative impact on academics doing engaged scholarship. I hope that this is an indication of the pendulum beginning to swing in at least a minor way in the directions for which many of have been advocating.

As a journal editor, I certainly think that this is a good sign. We should remember that the original designation of a journal in a particular category was based on the analysis of one issue only, chosen by the editor.
