Science and Society Community Challenge Grant Scheme

For those in UK, a new funding option is available. This new scheme offers financial support to individuals and organisations, to create and run pilot projects which take science to diverse audiences, and engage them with science in their own communities. Following the publication of the UNESCO Beijing Declaration on Learning Cities adopted in October 2013, the Swansea Bay City Region, the pilot UNESCO Learning City for the UK, seeks to keep up the momentum generated at that conference. Swansea University have are hosting a symposium on The Entrepreneurial Learning City Region.

Child Sensitive Social Policies International Conference 2014 Harare, Zimbabwe

The Department of Child Sensitive Social Policies at the Women’s University in Africa in collaboration with UNICEF Zimbabwe hosted the inaugural Child Sensitive Social Policies Conference. The main conference theme ‘Towards a Child Sensitive Society on Africa’ sought to explore the centrality of children in African contexts.

I am delighted to report that Jan Stenger, MacDowell Professor of Greek, Classics, University of Glasgow has won funding from the Royal Society of Edinburgh to hold a colloquium in April 2014 followed by a research workshop and public lecture in June 2014.

PASCAL Director attends Citynet conference in Seoul

Professor Michael Osborne, PASCAL Director at the University of Glasgow was very pleased to be able to attend the CityNet conference held between 3 and 6 November at Seoul City Hall and Global Centre. It was a pleasure for PASCAL as partners of CityNet to attend this event, which was full of excellent dialogue.
