100 Smart Cities to be funded in India

The Indian Government announced in June 2014 that 100 Smart Cities will be funded in India at a cost of US$1.2 billion.in cities with populations over 100,000 people. The program aims to improve methods for engaging citizens and addressing their needs, building capacity in cities and progressing e-governance through the use of technology..

Persistent poverty lost in place

A report on the City Observatory web site - How Poverty Has Deepened - provides data on the number of poor people living in "high poverty" urban neighbourhoods between 1970 and 2010 in America.The study shows that the number of poor people in these neighbourhoods has more than doubled in this period from two million to four million, while the number of such high-poverty neighbourhoods in cities has nearly tripled from 1,100 to 3,100. The study concludes that this growing concentration of poverty is the biggest problem confronting American cities.

Izmir University of Economics joins Networks

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has become the first Turkish university to participate in the PASCAL Learning Cities Networks (LCN) program. Located in the third city of Turkey which is the second biggest port in turkey after Istanbul, IEU was established in 2001 by the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation.

New OECD education publications on global education trends

Two new OECD education publications on global education trends will be released at 13.00 CET/12.00 GMT on Monday 19 January 2015. These will then be presented in an international webinar on Tuesday 20 January at 17.30 Paris time.

Cultural Policies and Activities for Sustainable Learning Cities, Communities, and Regions - A Rolling Workshop for 2015

International Congress of Educating Cities Declaration on Inclusion

The 13th International Congress of Educating Cities held in Barcelona in November adopted a Declaration on Inclusion in Educating Cities. 838 participants from 189 cities in 34 countries attended the conference.
